What is skills assessment tool?
The skills assessment is a tool developed by career advisors at the University of Turku to help recognize and articulate your own skills. The tool was developed as part of the ART project, co-funded by the European Union.
The skills assessment was designed with University of Turku students and recent graduates in mind, but it can also be freely used by other students.
Please note that the skills assessment is not a scientific or psychological evaluation tool.
General workplace skills in the skills assessment
The categories of general workplace skills are based on competency areas measured in career tracking surveys at the Finnish universities. The skills assessment focuses on the competencies considered most relevant in working life. Some areas have been combined or renamed for clarity.
The statements for each skill area were formulated collaboratively by career advisors in the university’s career services. During the pilot phase, a few statements were clarified based on feedback.
The consistency of the statements within each skill area was analyzed statistically using data from 116 respondents. Overall, internal consistency is good, meaning respondents answered statements within the same skill area fairly consistently.
The skill area of communication skills showed the lowest consistency. Statements in this area describe slightly different aspects of communication, which may increase variation in individual responses.
